Laser Physics and Photonics Devices Labs

Laser Physics and Photonics Devices Labs

Prof David G. Lancaster and his team undertake cutting edge photonics research taking laser technologies from concept through to prototypes

The group focuses on the development of new classes of guided wave lasers and photonic manufacturing processes to meet unique requirements in industries such as defence, metrology, and remote sensing. Working with related disciplines and global companies enables these devices to drive innovations in sensing, non-linear optics, lasers, mid-IR and more.

The research group has well established laser laboratories including advanced laser diagnostics, a 6-axis ultra-fast laser CNC machine for waveguide and Bragg grating fabrication, and a complete suite of fibre processing.

Working closely with ANFF-SA who provide them with a diverse range of expertise and facilities in glass and thin film fabrication as well as advanced subtractive and additive manufacturing of metal, polymer, ceramics and glass. The research areas developed in the group range from fundamental laser and non-linear photonics to application-driven design and development.
