News: CEMH wins Excellence in Consumer Engagement Award at the RRI Symposium
Prof Jureidini, Dr Walsh and Dr Aboustate won the Excellence in Consumer Engagement Award this year at the 2023 Robinson Research Institute Symposium for incorporating lived experience into their work and collaborating with the SA Lived Experience Leadership and Advocacy Network (LELAN).
CEMH's work over the past few years has involved:
o Developing training for clinicians in low socioeconomic areas which was informed by perspectives from people with lived experience of social disadvantage and mental ill-health.
o Creating a new module on lived experience for fourth and fifth year medical students which was created in collaboration with LELAN.
o Appointing a lived-experience researcher (Tanya Blazewicz) who continues her role with LELAN while contributing an important and critical lens to our work and commencing her own research project within the research group.
o Embedding a 0.3 FTE consumer position for two years into an MRFF grant to ensure a lived-experience view is part of the project throughout the life of the grant.
The Robinson Research Institute said: 'while all consumer engagement in research is valuable, even project identification and prioritisation, the level of consumer engagement in this project is quite sophisticated '.
