Alice Davey Award
Details Value In 1997, Dr K R and Mrs M S Davey paid a donation to the University of Adelaide to establish The Alice Davey Award, in memory of their late daughter, Alice Grace Davey, who died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 1994. This was supplemented by another gift in 2015 towards the fund.
To be eligible for the Award candidates must be individuals or members of a research team who are, or who were at the time of undertaking the research, students, staff members or titleholders of the University of Adelaide and shall:-
a. have contributed the most meritorious, recognised scholarly work relevant to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research or chronic/life threatening paediatric illnesses; or
b. be deemed to have the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research or chronic/life threatening paediatric illnesses.
in the year for which the Award is awarded.Applicants will be required to provide a brief statement outlining the significance of the research contribution, or potential contribution, to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or chronic/life threatening paediatric illnesses.

Alicia Rose Doherty Prize
Details Value This Prize has been established by donations to the University from family and friends of Alicia Rose Doherty including her husband, Aaron James Doherty in memory of his wife and academic staff member, Professor Anthony (Tony) Thomas and his wife Dr Joan Thomas in memory of their daughter, the late Alicia Rose Doherty who was an alumna of the University.
Because of Alicia's background in psychology (Honours at University of Adelaide and Masters at University of South Australia) and her work with Indigenous people in the Northern Territory, the intent of the Prize is to encourage students of Indigenous background to complete studies in psychology with the aim of encouraging them to become a registered psychologist. The term Indigenous is to be interpreted liberally, to include Torres Strait Islanders and those of Maori background.Applicants must have completed an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited degree at any University and be either:
• an Indigenous student at third year level; or
• an Indigenous student completing an APAC accredited Honours degree or a Master of Psychology at the University of Adelaide or equivalent.If an applicant cannot be identified who fulfils the requirement for Indigenous status, applicants from a non-Indigenous background who are studying or working in an Indigenous field will be considered.
Applications will be assessed based on academic achievement.
If there is more than one candidate of equal merit, then the Prize may be shared equally.

AMSS President's Research Award
Details Value Awarded to a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student demonstrating excellence in medical research on the basis of a scientific communication published in a refereed biomedical journal. $500 -
Anna Florence Booth Prize
Details Value In 1940, Sydney Russell Booth donated funds to the University to found, with the income thereof, a Prize in memory of his wife, to be called the 'Anna Florence Booth Prize'.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Master of Psychology program of study at the University of Adelaide and have submitted their thesis in the year for which the Prize is awarded. The student's thesis must be on an aspect of psychology which addresses a social problem in the wider community.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who submits the best thesis in psychology which addresses a social problem in the wider community.

Anthony McMichael & David Shearman Prize
Details Value This award was established by Doctors for the Environment Australia in honour of the seminal work in climate change and its impacts on human health by former University of Adelaide professors, Tony McMichael and David Shearman.
A perpetual plaque accompanies this prize, which is administered by the Adelaide Medical School.
To be eligible for this prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide for which the prize is being awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who throughout the medical program, has contributed most significantly to the cause of sustainability through advocacy, service, education and leadership.

Austin Bazeley Prize for Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine
Details Value The Council of the University accepted from the Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine Study Group of the Australian Dental Association (S.A. Branch), a gift to endow a prize in memory of Austin Bazeley, a graduate of the University in 1955 and active member of the Study Group before his death at age 27, for the purpose of establishing an annual Prize in the Faculty of Dentistry.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the final year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest marks in the Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery components of DENT5005AHO - Dental Science and Practice V Part 1 and DENT5005BHO - Dental Science and Practice V Part 2

Australian Chinese Medical Association Prize
Details Value The Prize has been established by a donation to the University by the Australian Chinese Medical Association.
To be eligible for this prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide in the year for which the prize is being awarded.

Details Value This Prize has been established by a donation to the University by the Australian Medical Association (SA Branch) Prize.
To be eligible for this prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide in the year which the prize is being awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who is judged to be the best student in the combined criteria of academic performance, contribution to the Adelaide Medical School, including through representing the interests of students, and contribution to the health of the community.

Barbara Meyler Memorial Prize
Details Value In 1977, Mrs E.E.M. Wells made a donation to the University for the purpose of establishing a memorial Prize in psychiatry in memory of her daughter, Dr Barbara Meyler.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the:-
a) fifth year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery program; or
b) second year of the Doctor of Medicine program at the University in the year in which the Prize is awarded.The Prize shall be awarded annually, to the candidate who either:

David Compton Award
Details Amount The Prize has been established by a donation to the University by David Compton.
To be eligible for the prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide in the year for which the prize is being awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who has submitted the best 3,000 word essay on any Opthalmology related topic of the student's choice.

Dental Board of SA Prizes
Details Value In 1967, the Dental Board of South Australia paid the University funds for the purpose of establishing two annual Prizes:-
• The Dental Board of South Australia Prize for the Highest Standard in the First Annual Examination; and
• The Dental Board of South Australia Prize for the Highest Standard in the Fourth Annual Examination.The fourth-year Prize was established in 1947. The first-year Prize was established in 1967.

Dr Davies-Thomas Prizes
Details Value In 1896, Mrs E Davies-Thomas gave funds to the University for the purpose of founding two scholarships in the medical course to be named after the late Dr Davies-Thomas.
In 1934, Mrs E Davies-Thomas also bequeathed funds to the University to augment the Davies-Thomas Scholarship Fund.Two Prizes shall be known as the 'Dr Davies-Thomas Prizes'.
To be eligible for each Prize candidates must have successfully completed the:-
a. Third year of the Bachelor of Medical Studies program; or
b. First year of the Doctor of Medicine program; or
c. Fourth year of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Details Value Awarded in recognition of research of demonstrable impact in a surgical discipline. $2,000 -
Dr Teresa Burgess Memorial Prize in Public Health
Details Value This Prize was established in 2021 by donations to the University in honour of the late Dr Teresa Burgess through contributions from staff, titleholders and colleagues in the School of Public Health.
Dr Burgess was passionate about public health and communicating the importance of public health to her students. She was a qualitative researcher with strong research interests in end-of-life care, primary care and public health policy. She was committed to developing capable public health graduates that would engage respectfully with the community and translate their knowledge and skills into better health outcomes for the public, particularly for older and vulnerable people.
In recognition of Dr Burgess' care for her students, her service to the School, and her relationship with colleagues, this Prize aims to recognise students who are studying or practising in the field of Public Health who provide outstanding service to their peers.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must:-
• have completed at least their first year of undergraduate studies and be undertaking a Public Health major; OR
• be undertaking Honours (Principal Supervisor in the School of Public Health); OR
• be undertaking Public Health courses in the Graduate Certificate in Public Health, Graduate Diploma in Public Health, or the Master of Public Health
in the year for which the Prize is awarded.The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences will call for nominations each year. Nominations should close mid-November.
Selection will be determined according to:
• demonstrated service in the field of Public Health of significant merit to others in the class, the School of Public Health or the community;
• consistent demonstrated values of selflessness, helpfulness, care, responsibility, and integrity in dealing with their peers in Public Health.
• service is defined as a contribution to the welfare of others.The Prize shall not be awarded to a previous recipient of the Prize, however candidates may be nominated more than once.

Eugene Abraham Matison Prize
Details Value In 1965, Mrs E A Matison gave funds to the University to establish a Prize in memory of her husband, the late Dr Matison who was an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the first year of the Doctor of Medicine program in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who, having passed the first-year examination of the program stated above, submits the best essay on Otorhinolaryngology.

Everard Prize
Details Value In 1890, William Everard bequeathed funds to the University for the establishment of a scholarship in connection with the Medical School to be called "the Everard Scholarship".
Although Mr Everard referred to a scholarship, the annual income distribution payable from the capital sum is considered a Prize under current University terminology.To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the final year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program or the final year of the Doctor of Medicine program at the University in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
Due to the introduction of the new Doctor of Medicine program the Prize will be awarded in accordance with the roll out of the new program.
The Prize shall be awarded annually:
a) Until and including 2026, to the candidate who finished as one of the top four students in the course MEDIC ST 3000 and subsequently over years 4, 5, and 6 obtained the highest overall performance in the in the courses MEDIC ST 4000 and MEDIC ST 5000 of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
b) From 2027, to the candidate who finished as one of the top four students in knowledge tests and objective structured clinical exams (OSCE) in the courses MEDIC ST 3501 and MEDIC ST 3502 in the Bachelor of Medical Studies program, and who subsequently obtained the highest overall performance in the knowledge tests and OSCE in the courses MEDIC ST 7401, MEDIC ST 7402, MEDIC ST 7501 and MEDIC ST 7502 in the Doctor of Medicine program.$1,200 -
Frank Dalziel Prize
Details Value The Frank Dalziel Prize was established in 2003, from a bequest to the University from the estate of Dr. Frank Dalziel. Dr Dalziel was a member of the Department (now School) of Psychology at the University of Adelaide for 36 years until his death in 1999. He maintained a strong interest throughout his life in the scientific study of animal and human behaviour. He was an extremely popular and successful PhD supervisor who encouraged a high level of intellectual enthusiasm and achievement in his students.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have submitted their thesis for the awarding of the PhD degree, to the School of Psychology in the 12 months immediately prior to the year the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who submitted the best thesis.
The Prize may be awarded to more than one recipient or not awarded at all in any given year.

Helen Boundy Memorial Prize
Details Value This Prize was established by the University in 2020 when Public Trustee paid the capital and accumulated income of the Helen Boundy Trust to the Dean of Dentistry for the purchase of text books or clinical equipment for the use of students currently undertaking the Degree of Bachelor of Oral Health, as the Dean of Dentistry shall decide.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the third and final year of the Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Adelaide in the year for which the Prize is awarded.

Ian Furler Prize in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Details Value In 1975, friends of the late Ian Furler, Senior Visiting Medical Specialist of The Queen Victoria Hospital and Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University, subscribed funds for the purpose of providing an educational memorial at the University.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the:-
a) fifth year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program; or
b) second year of the Doctor of Medicine program at the University
in the year for which the Prize is awarded.Due to the introduction of the new Doctor of Medicine this prize will be awarded in accordance with the roll out of the new program.

a) Until and including 2025, to the candidate who achieved the highest marks in the multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ) and objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) in the course MEDIC ST 5016 Human Reproductive Health.b) From 2026, to the candidate who performed best overall in the knowledge tests and OSCE associated with the Human Reproductive Health components of the course MEDIC ST 7501 Women's and Children's Health.

J B Cleland Prize for Pathology
Details Value In 1949, the Committee of the J B Cleland Trust Fund gave funds to the University to establish a Prize in pathology in memory of John Burton Cleland, MD, George Richard Marks Professor of Pathology in the University from 1920 to 1948.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the course PATHOL 3101 - Essentials of Pathology at the University in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest mark in the course stated above.

Details Amount This Prize has been established by a donation to the University by Jonathan Newbury.
To be eligible for this Award, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide for which the award is being offered.
The award shall be awarded annually to the student who has demonstrated to be a well-rounded student who is actively engaged in their community, as well as their profession.

Keith Sheridan Prize
Details Value This Prize was established in 1925, by a bequest to the University from Mrs A M Simpson and Miss Keith Sheridan (sisters) to perpetuate the name of Keith Sheridan in memory of their parents for the purpose of awarding a Prize or Prizes in the Medical School to be called "The Keith Sheridan Prizes".
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program or Doctor of Medicine program in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
Due to the introduction of the new Doctor of Medicine program, this Prize will be awarded in accordance with the roll out of the new program.
The Prize will be awarded

Lister Prize
Details Value This Prize was established in 1914 when funds were paid to the University by an anonymous donor for the purpose of founding a Prize in memory of the late Lord Lister.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery program or the Doctor of Medicine program in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who submitted the best publication in the field of surgery excluding Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology, during the preceding 12-18 months.

Master of Health Psychology Prize
Details Value This Prize was established in 2010 by the School of Psychology and the School of Medicine, Discipline of Psychiatry, which offered the conjoint program, Master of Psychology (Health).
From 2014, this Prize is being offered by the School of Psychology for the Master of Psychology (Health).To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Master of Psychology (Health) in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest mark in the combined Year 1 and Year 2 summative tasks of the program stated above.

Moore Medallion and Prize
Details Value From 1995 to 2010 the Dental Board of South Australia ("the Board") administered a donation it received from the Moore Family, and annually awarded the Moore Medallion, on the recommendation of the University of Adelaide Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry (''the Dean") and the President of the Board, to a final year undergraduate dental student of the University of Adelaide.
When the Board was disbanded in 2010, after consultation with the Moore family, the Board forwarded the remaining money of the donation and the dye for the fabrication of the medallion, onto the University of Adelaide to administer.To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Dental Surgery in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who obtained the highest overall standard that includes academic ability, service to student affairs and the University community at large, leadership qualities as well as accrual of distinctions and honours that bring credit to the School and profession.

Nigel Craddock Memorial Prize
Details Value In 1992, Mr and Mrs David Craddock donated $4,000 to the University for the purpose of establishing a Prize in memory of their son Nigel E. N. Craddock who passed away in the year he was undertaking the Fourth Year of the Medical Course.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Medical Studies program at the University in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who obtained the best results in the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) in the course MEDIC ST 3502 - Transition to Clinical Studies.

Details Amount This Prize has been established by a donation to the University by the Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide.

The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate with the best performance in Year 5 paediatric rotation and end of semester clinical paediatric examination (Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

Details Amount In 1986 Lynda Adella Stamp Bequeathed a sum to the University to establish a Prize in recognition of work in the field of Medicine.
To be eligible for the prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program or the Doctor of Medicine program at the University in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who has demonstrated the most outstanding contribution and performance in community and/or global medicine in either of the programs stated above.

Details Value In 1895, funds were paid to the University of Adelaide by various subscribers to establish a Prize in memory of the late Reverend William Roby Fletcher, MA, formerly Vice Chancellor of the University of Adelaide.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the Level III prerequisites for entry into the Honours Psychology course in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest marks for the courses stated above.

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Prize
Details Amount This Prize has been established by a donation to the University by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
To be eligible for this prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide in the year for which the prize is being awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who is ranked with a weighting of 50% based on academic merit (results in the final exam), and 50% on their GP supervisor report. The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who is ranked with a weighting of 50% based on academic merit (results in the final exam), and 50% on their GP supervisor report. Details Value In 1964, friends and colleagues of the late Frieda Ruth Heighway, M.D., F.R.C.O.G., donated funds to the University for the purpose of endowing a Prize in obstetrics to perpetuate her memory.

This Prize was established by the School of Allied Health Science and Practice to recognise students undertaking research honours at the University of Adelaide.To be eligible for the prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) or Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) program in the year for which the Prize is awarded.

Details Amount This Prize was established by the School of Allied Health Science and Practice to recognise students in the field of occupational therapy at the University of Adelaide.
To be eligible for the prize candidates must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) program in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The top five students with the highest cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) across the duration of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) program will be considered for the Prize.

The Prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who obtains the highest cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) across the duration of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) program. GPA will be calculated from all courses which are shared between the Research and Industry Honours students

Shorney Prize
Details Value In 1941, the late Mabel Shorney on behalf of her family bequeathed funds to the University to establish a Prize in connection with the medical school in memory of her late brother Herbert Frank Shorney MD, FRCS, Lecturer in Ophthalmology from 1926 to 1933.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must be undertaking ophthalmic research in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences that is either being submitted or published in peer review and/or a scientific journal in the year for which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who has made the most substantial contribution to knowledge in Ophthalmology.

Sir Trent Champion de Crespigny
Details Amount This Prize has been established by a donation to the University by the Australian Medical Association (SA Branch) to honour the late Sir Trent Champion de Crespigny.
To be eligible for this prize, candidates must be a sixth-year student who has completed Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs at the University of Adelaide in the year for which the prize is being awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the eligible candidate who obtained the highest marks in their Year 5 end-of-year clinical examination (Year 5 Objective Structure Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

T Draper Campbell Medal and Prize
Details Value In 1991, a donation was made to the University from Professor Tasman Brown for the purposes of establishing a medal and Prize to commemorate the late Professor Thomas Draper Campbell, the first Professor of Dental Science and Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry from 1939 to 1958.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the second year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest combined mark in DENT 2005 AHO-Dental Science and Practice II Part 1 and DENT 2005 BHO-Dental Science and Practice II Part 2.

Thomas L Borthwick Memorial Prize
Details Amount in 1951, Frank Sandland Hone C.M.G. bequeathed to the University a sum for the purpose of founding an annual prize in public health and preventative medicine.
To be eligible for the Prize, candidates must have successfully completed the course PUB HLTH 7028 - Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who achieved the highest overall mark in the course stated above.

Wilsen Prize for Ethical Conduct
Details Value In 2003, following discussions between Professor Grant Townsend and Adelaide BOS graduate Dr Michael Wilsen regarding the emphasis on ethical conduct in the Adelaide BOS and its importance, it was agreed that a Prize awarding ethical conduct should be established for dental surgery students.
To be eligible for the Prize candidates must have successfully completed the third year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery in the year in which the Prize is awarded.
Applications must be submitted including a 1500 word essay, addressing "The significance of ethical conduct as a dental student and future dental professional'. The essay must be original work and the use of any Artificial Intelligence tool is not permitted. The essay must have contemporary peer reviewed in-text references and a reference list (not counted as part of the word count) formatted using Harvard system.
The Prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who has demonstrated sound ethical conduct throughout the first three years of the program stated above and is deemed to have written the best essay on why ethical conduct is important.
