Course overview
This course will introduce students to practical prototyping and design skills across the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and civil engineering. Students will learn software design tools and graphical communication methods, coupled with hands-on training and workshop experiences. These skills and experiences will come together for student groups to complete and present a practical design project. This course is part of the engineering first year core to build foundational skills that will be developed in later years.

Course learning outcomes
- Use hand tools and simple processes to safely prototype in an engineering workshop by following workplace health and safety standards and risk assessment procedures
- Develop practical solutions using a systematic approach for engineering design problems in a team environment, and present them via appropriate professional engineering communication tools
- Use Computer Aided Design software tools to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings
- Demonstrate knowledge of discipline-specific engineering practical design
- Demonstrate ability to work professionally, independently, and collaboratively
