The Emerita Professor Ieva Kotlarski Horizons PhD Travel Scholarship was established to honour the memory of Emerita Professor Ieva Kotlarski and her contributions to the University of Adelaide’s Microbiology and Immunology departments, as well as the valuable experiences that she gained through international study.
The purpose of this scholarship is to enable PhD candidates researching Microbiology or Immunology to undertake travel as part of their postgraduate research project. This includes travel such as attending conferences, conducting laboratory visits or other research-related activities.
The successful candidate will receive $2,500, paid as a lump sum, to help support their travel costs.

Eligibility
To be eligible to hold this scholarship, you must:
- Be enrolled in a full-time PhD program at the University; and
- Have successfully completed your Confirmation of Candidature Review; and
- Be undertaking a research project in the field of Microbiology or Immunology.
To be eligible to be covered by this scholarship, travel must:
- Not be retrospective; and
- Not be undertaken in a period of extended candidature; and
- Be completed in full prior to thesis submission or the end of candidature.
Selection criteria
The scholarship will be awarded via a competitive selection process managed by the Adelaide University Graduate Research School, based on academic merit, research potential, benefit of travel to the applicant’s Higher Degree by Research program, and relevance to Microbiology or Immunology.Preference will be given to candidates undertaking research in the field of human biology.
