The Marcia Nicholl Research Top Up Scholarship honours the memory of Marcia Nicholl, a graduate of the University of South Australia.
This perpetual scholarship supports female students commencing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at Adelaide University by providing a top-up stipend throughout their research program. The scholarship aims to reduce the need for paid employment and enable recipients to focus on their research.
The scholarship supports women who demonstrate academic achievement and positive engagement with the community, and who identify as one or more of the following: an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; a person with refugee status; or a person living with a recognised disability.
Successful applicants will receive a stipend of $8,000 p.a. for up to 3 years (PhD) or 2 years (MPhil), pro-rata for half-time enrolment.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- Identify as female; and
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or international student; and
- Be commencing or in your first year of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil); and
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, a person with refugee status, and/or a person living with a recognised disability; and
- Hold a major scholarship.
Selection criteria
The scholarship will be awarded via a competitive selection process managed by the Adelaide University Graduate Research School, based on academic merit, research potential, and community engagement.
Preference will be given to full-time students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and/or positive involvement in the community.
