Welcome to ThincHer: Who we are and what we do
By Lucija Strkalj, PHD student at The University of Adelaide and committee member of the ThincHer blog writing team.
Dear future innovators and entrepreneurs,
If you are interested in female empowerment and entrepreneurship, or want to find what is ThincHer, keep on reading!
My name is Lucija, and I am a part of ThincHer blog-writing team. I am also a PhD candidate in Food Science part of a joint degree programme with The University of Adelaide and The-University of Nottingham. I have always been interested in how food impacts our health, and during my PhD I had opportunities to take part in certain competitions focused on entrepreneurship and intellectual property. I learnt about ThincHer and wanted to know more about their mission, goals, and how is it designed, so I applied and became a committee member. I align with the values ThincHer promotes (more on that below!), and I really like its collaborative nature. I especially think that joining ThincHer is beneficial to international students (like myself) – if you are planning to start your business, or simply want to learn about market trends and developing areas, this is a great programme to be in! For anyone who hasn't lived here long, it can be hard to discern which sectors are growing and where should you apply your ideas. This is definitely what I have considered when joining, as well. The ThincHer program is also a great way to expand your network, ask questions, and just meet more likeminded people. I am super excited about the Launch event, and the masterclasses that are to follow and hope to see everyone there! Now, onto some useful information and links 😊
We would like to invite you to our ThincHer launch event on Thursday 3rd of August at Bonython Hall.
We are excited to bring this new initiative to life and offer you a fun way to find out more about entrepreneurial possibilities for women. ThincHer is specifically created for women students by women students - we want to offer as many practical insights and experiences in an informal setting where you can ask questions, suggest topics, and join ThincHer. We are passionate about empowering and equipping participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and mindset to excel as entrepreneurs and/or leaders in their respective fields. ThincHer is established under ThincLab and University of Adelaide, which are well known for their numerous competitions (such as eChallenge), workshops, and presentations.
For us, everyone has a potential to build on their ideas and turn them into reality. A woman entrepreneur is someone who is energetic, passionate, innovative, resilient, and powerful. We are sure you will be able to find a word that you resonate with, and we hope our programme will help you get there.
At our anticipated launch event, you will be able to meet many like-minded people, ask questions, eat delicious food, and have professional headshots taken. We will have activities such as playing conference bingo, compliment badges, and many others where we would really like to highlight all the possibilities for success and inspire you to go on your own entrepreneurial journey! Experts in different stages of their businesses will be sharing wisdom through their experiences, and all expertise and areas of study are welcome.
We would also like to point out our blog posts at ThincHer website. We want to create space where you can find different resources which can help you in your student and/or professional life, so keep an eye out for it! 😊
We can’t wait to see you at our Launch day!
