Building our pathway ahead, together

People at a table

Adelaide University is shaping a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples feel a deep sense of belonging, pride and opportunity. Building on the strong foundations of its foundational institutions, the University is committed to reconciliation through genuine partnership, two-way learning and respectful knowledge sharing. Its vision is to create an environment where First Nations knowledges enrich teaching and research, where students are supported to thrive, and where community-led research and respectful collaboration guide its work. Central to this commitment is growing Indigenous leadership and ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices help shape Adelaide University.

Our vision for the future

Adelaide University aspires to be a university of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and is committed to reconciliation.

Our antecedent institutions have a long history of commitment and achievement in advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, research and engagement. These institutions proudly established programs, partnerships, student support functions, employment pathways, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that Adelaide University will carry forward and grow.

Underpinning our future strategies is our continued focus on:

  • Embedding Aboriginal knowledges and perspectives across teaching, research, and professional practice, grounded in two-way learning and respectful knowledge exchange.
  • Creating a culturally safe, inclusive and supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff and communities.
  • Strengthening educational access, participation, success and graduate outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, including equitable retention, completion and employment outcomes.
  • Building strong, long-term partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, founded on trust, respect, free, prior and informed consent, and shared responsibility.
  • Ensuring ethical, culturally safe and community-led research, guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, governance, and priorities.
  • Growing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and representation across governance, decision-making, and the University workforce.
