Adelaide University’s Professor David MacIntyre, Director of the Robinson Research Institute, has received international recognition from the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI).

Professor MacIntyre was presented the SRI Distinguished Scientist Award at the society’s recent annual scientific meeting, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The award is given to a senior member of the society to recognise significant and lasting contributions to the society and to scientific research in reproductive health sciences.

“This award recognises Professor MacIntyre’s outstanding investigation of the relationship between microbiota and the maternal host, as well as how it influences health outcomes,” said SRI president Dr Irina Burd.

“It also recognises his commitment to translating research to improve women’s reproductive health nationally and also in a global context.”

Professor MacIntyre received his PhD in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2007, before embarking on post-doctoral training overseas.

He moved to Imperial College London in 2010 and was appointed Co-Director of the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centre there in 2018, a position he still holds.

Professor MacIntyre’s research focuses on understanding how the microbiome influences reproductive health outcomes.

"I am deeply honoured to receive this award from the Society for Reproductive Investigation,” said Professor MacIntyre.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with outstanding researchers who share a commitment to improving women’s and children’s health.

“I gratefully share this recognition with them, particularly my teams at Imperial College London and the Robinson Research Institute at Adelaide University."

Adelaide University Professor Anton Middelberg FTSE FNAI, Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research and Innovation congratulated Professor MacIntyre on his award.

“Professor MacIntyre is an excellent recipient of this SRI award, with his commitment to research over his career providing new understandings towards reproductive health,” he said.
