Where are practical exams held?

Face-to-face exams in SA & NT take place at Adelaide University’s City East campus (Central Venue SA), at Charles Darwin University (Central Venue Darwin), and in private venues (schools, studios and teachers’ homes).

Central venue (CV)

You can enrol in Central Venue sessions (SA) which offer specific subjects at specific times. Exam times are scheduled typically from 8am to 6pm (or 7pm during daylight savings), on weekdays and weekends, except public holidays. Exams don’t generally occur on a Sunday unless this is specified in the session dates.

Access a detailed guide for navigating to exams at Adelaide University on weekdays and weekends, including videos and parking advice.

Central Venue (Darwin)

Enrolments in Darwin sessions will be automatically allocated to the Central Venue (Darwin), CDU, unless a private venue is nominated at the time of enrolment. CDU exams run on weekdays, typically 8:30am to 5:30pm, with the exception of Thursday morning.

Private venues (PV)

AMEB SA & NT conducted exams in venues other than those offered at Central Venues are called Private Venue sessions. Private Venue session options exist throughout the exam year in Metropolitan Adelaide (with greater subject availability than CV sessions) and are also offered during published NT and Regional SA sessions.

Schools, commercial and private studios can host AMEB, Rockschool and Stageschool exams in SA & NT, provided the venue is approved to do so. To enrol in a private venue session, enrollers will have usually liaised with the venue and obtained their venue code, for use at the time of enrolment.

Our private venue guide contains information on private venues and how these work, including the application process to become an approved venue, and the restrictions around hosting sessions.

Joining another venue

Enrollers wishing to explore the option of joining a private venue for exams can choose to:

  • Liaise directly with the venue to find out when they plan to host exams and what subject, and to obtain their venue code
  • Express interest via the AMEB Venue Connect Facebook Group or with others known to you, in the same subject areas
