Law for Canadian students

Law for Canadian students

A seamless route from your studies to the practice of law in Canada

Have you thought about studying Law in Australia? At Adelaide University, you can study a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) directly after high school or your undergraduate university studies.

You don't need an undergraduate degree to enter, although if you already have an undergraduate degree, the duration of your law degree will be reduced to three years full-time (as opposed to four years).

Did you know?

  • The Australian Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is equivalent to the Canadian JD.
  • Studying law in Australia is similar to Canada due to our shared common law heritage.
  • LSAT is not required for entry.

Federation of Law Societies of Canada National Committee on Accreditation (NCA)

How do I gain admission to practice law in Canada?

You will need to obtain accreditation of your degree from the NCA upon returning to Canada. Typically, this will require the completion of six subjects in Canadian content not included in your Adelaide University law degree.

NCA exams

Adelaide University is an approved NCA Exam Centre. If you need to complete any NCA exams, you can write them at the School of Law according to the schedule set by the NCA each year.

Université de Montréal: Specialized Graduate Diploma in Canadian Law

The School of Law has established the Specialized Graduate Diploma in Canadian Law with the Université de Montréal Faculty of Law which allows Adelaide University law students to complete National Committee on Accreditation requirements (NCA) as part of their degree.

The Specialized Graduate Diploma in Canadian Law is tailor-made to work within the Bachelor of Laws (Honours), allowing you to both complete your Adelaide University degree and NCA requirements within three calendar years.
