About Mawson Analytical Spectrometry Services (MASS)

The Mawson Analytical Spectrometry Services (MASS) facility at Adelaide University is a state-of-the-art analytical platform serving both academic researchers and commercial partners. It offers a wide-ranging, industry-quality service across three primary streams: Metal and Radiometric Isotopes with high-precision Thermal Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (TIMS), Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (CHNOS) and detailed Organic Molecular Analysis and Characterisation.

Our key capabilities span high-precision geochronology, palaeoclimate reconstructions, food web analysis, product source & traceability, and comprehensive rock & sediment characterisation using advanced instrumentation like GC-MS, ICP and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). We are highly attuned to industry needs, evidenced by our experienced laboratory staff, flexible volume options, and explicit focus on applications such as mineral exploration, petroleum geochemistry, forensic and provenance investigations, chemical engineering and biofuel analysis.

We are proud to provide valuable services by subject matter experts, who move beyond data delivery to offer evaluation and interpretation of results. This blend of cutting-edge technology, broad analytical scope and expert consultancy makes MASS a vital resource for diverse research and industrial sectors.
