What a disclosure can be about

South Australia’s Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018  (PID Act) sets up a scheme to encourage and support appropriate disclosures of public interest information. It protects people who make these disclosures from reprisal. A disclosure can be about:

Number one purple icon

Public administration information

Information that raises a potential issue of corruption, misconduct or maladministration in public administration. Public officers who disclose this information are protected by the PID Act.

Number two purple icon

Environmental and health information

Information that raises a potential issue of substantial risk to the environment, or to the health or safety of the public. Anyone who discloses this kind of information is protected, not only public officers.

How to make a disclosure

Use the online reporting form and say you want your report treated as a public interest disclosure. This tells us to handle it under the PID Act.

Read Report an incident or concern for anonymous reporting, what happens after you report and how to talk to the Safer Community Unit (formerly the Integrity Unit) first.

If your concern is not a public interest disclosure

Get advice

Most reports aren't public interest disclosures, and you don't need to work out which is which. Email us and tell us what happened – we'll let you know how it will be handled.

Outside the University

You can report corruption, misconduct or maladministration directly to the Office for Public Integrity instead of, or as well as, Adelaide University.

Making a disclosure can be stressful. Confidential support is available to students through Respect at AU and to staff through the Employee Assistance Program. You don’t have to make a report to get support.
