Meet Cameron – Senior Project Officer

Tell us something about yourself?

I am Arabana on my mum’s side. My mum was adopted and raised by a Dutch family, however when I was in primary school my mum was able to reconnect with her biological mother. This led to a trip to Darwin where our large new family welcomed us in with open arms, a surreal experience at a young age.

I originally completed a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and spent a couple of years as a Primary School Teacher, before the Aboriginal Graduate Program at UniSA allowed me to experience working for a university and I have not looked back.

What’s your role at Adelaide University?

I work in the Projects and Initiatives team for the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation (DVCRI) as a Senior Project Officer. The office provides strategic oversight to Adelaide University’s Research and Innovation (R&I) portfolio, where I specifically provide project management across the various R&I functions.

I started at UniSA in 2022, and have worked in the People and Organisational Development team in People, Talent and Culture, the Office of the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, and with Wirringka Student Services working towards the Student Engagement Unit’s deliverables in UniSA’s Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan.

What are your hopes for your community at Adelaide University?

I am very appreciative of the connections I have been able to build being a part of the university community, and the commitment shown to Aboriginal engagement and wellbeing.

My hope is that the strengths of both foundation universities come together for Adelaide University and create this community and commitment at a larger and even more impressive scale.
