Professor Weinstein features in the Adelaidean: Beating the bad Aussie mozzie
Professor Philip Weinstein was recently interviewed by the Adelaidean about his many research achievements and what it means to him to be leading the University of Adelaide's School of Biological Sciences.
Did you know that Professor Weinstein has a cockroach named after him? Or that he has written over 100 papers on water-borne and mosquito transmitted disease?
In his interview Professor Weinstein expands upon major projects he has been working on, as well as his research focus of improving human health by protecting the environment.
"My research involves building a methodology that translates to other diseases in other environments...
Ecosystem dynamics are rarely linear and changes to address one problem can often create another. One reason Ross River virus is becoming more common in Australia is that irrigation and the impact of dry land salinity means there is year-round water for the mosquitos that carry the disease,” says Professor Weinstein.
