Spend your afternoon at the Adelaide Zoo this World Wildlife Day with wildlife crime experts, Environment Institute member and head of the Wildlife Crime Research Hub at the University of Adelaide, Professor Phill Cassey, and John Scanlon AO, an international environmental leader with a well established career in law, policy, and conservation.

Together, they will explore the critical issue of illegal wildlife trade, the multi-billion-dollar industry, that thrives on demand for exotic pets, traditional medicine, luxury goods, and trophies. Weak laws, corruption, and poor enforcement enable trafficking, while habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict drive poaching. Online platforms further fuel illegal trade, complicating enforcement. Despite these challenges, efforts to combat wildlife trafficking continue to make an impact.
