Sponsored students are students who receive a scholarship from their home government, a specific company, a non-government organisation, or the Australia Awards Scholarships scheme.

The University of Adelaide works with the Australian Government, international governments, funding agencies and industry to develop strategic sponsor partnerships to attract the brightest minds from around the world and provide tertiary education opportunities for students from a wide range of countries.

The University works closely with sponsors across the entire student lifecycle, providing support in areas such as application and admissions, student finance and invoicing, academic performance reporting, and dedicated student support services.

The University currently accepts sponsored students from the following agencies:

  • Africa & Middle East

    AFAQ for Leadership Development - United Arab Emirates (UAE)

    AFAQ for Leadership Development is a leadership development consultancy in the UAE that works closely with organisations (including public sector and government ministries) to optimise the capability of senior leaders, managers and teams.

    Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge - UAE

    The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) provides scholarships for outstanding Emirati students to pursue undergraduate studies at leading global universities and contribute to Abu Dhabi’s knowledge-based economy. The University of Adelaide (UoA) is also pleased to partner with ADEK on its Khotwa (RizeUp) Scholarship Program. This is a new and fully funded scholarship program for Abu Dhabi students to study abroad in Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United States. Khotwa Scholars coming to UoA will undertake English language training at UoA’s English Language Centre, proceeded by one year of a foundation program at the University of Adelaide College, with the final three years spent at the University to earn a bachelor’s degree.

    Australia Awards - Australia

    The Australia Awards Scholarships program provides opportunities for students from a wide range of countries in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in Australia. Administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this program aims to develop the skills and knowledge of emerging leaders from developing countries so they can drive change and contribute to development, prosperity, and resilience outcomes in their home country.  

    Kuwait Cultural Office (KCO) - Kuwait

    The Kuwait Cultural Office (KCO) acts as a liaison point between Australian institutions and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in Kuwait, which sets out the number of government-sponsored students in Australian universities and nominated majors. The University of Adelaide works closely with KCO in the administration of scholarships for students studying at the University. 

    Ministry of Education - UAE

    The UAE Ministry of Education provides scholarship opportunities for students to study in the most prestigious universities around the world, including the University of Adelaide. In Australia, these scholarships are managed through the Education and Technology Sciences Attaché Office in Canberra.

    Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation - Oman

    The Sultanate of Oman sponsors its citizens to undertake undergraduate studies at the University of Adelaide, especially in areas relevant to the Sultanate’s key job market needs. This scholarship program aims to produce graduates who have technical competence and knowledge in core disciplines, as well as skills sought by employers.

    Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) - Saudi Arabia 

    The Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM), an affiliate of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Australia, facilitates the implementation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program and other scholarship programs run by Saudi ministries, universities and corporations.

    Saudi Aramco - Saudi Arabia 

    The University of Adelaide has a sponsorship agreement with Saudi Aramco to welcome students into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Petroleum) program. Students complete the Aramco College Preparation Program and study at the world’s top universities in their respective disciplines before returning to take up positions with the company. 

  • Latin America & The Caribbean

    ANID National Agency for Research and Development Chile

    Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo – National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) is a government agency that administers and executes postgraduate scholarships to promote, encourage and develop research, technological development and scientific-technological innovation in Chile.

    COLFUTURO - Colombia

    COLFUTURO is a financial support initiative for Colombian professionals who wish to broaden their career development by pursuing master's by coursework and research or doctoral research higher degree studies at the top global 100 universities to build on human capital for the future of Colombia. The University of Adelaide also collaborates with COLFUTURO on its languages program for intensive English language studies.

    PRONABEC - Peru

    PRONABEC is Peru's national scholarship program, funding high-achieving Peruvian students to undertake postgraduate studies overseas. The University of Adelaide is delighted to be one of PRONABEC’s partner universities and to welcome Peruvian students to campus through this program.

    FUNED - Mexico

    FUNED (Fundación Mexicana para la Educación, la Tecnología y la Ciencia) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides financial support to high-achieving Mexican students who want to study a master’s degrees abroad at the best universities in the world.  FUNED’s mission is to contribute to the development of Mexico through the professional growth of young Mexicans, and encourage them to become agents of change for the country. FUNED supports all areas of study that contribute to the economic development of Mexico.

  • Northeast Asia

    Australia Awards - Australia

    The Australia Awards Scholarships program provides opportunities for students from a wide range of countries in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in Australia. Administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this program aims to develop the skills and knowledge of emerging leaders from developing countries so they can drive change and contribute to development, prosperity, and resilience outcomes in their home country.  

    China Scholarship Council - China

    The China Scholarship Council and University of Adelaide jointly offer postgraduate research scholarships to applicants from the People’s Republic of China who intend to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy at the University. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the program will be conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Adelaide.

    Australia Awards - Australia

    The Australia Awards Scholarships program provides opportunities for students from a wide range of countries in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in Australia. Administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this program aims to develop the skills and knowledge of emerging leaders from developing countries so they can drive change and contribute to development, prosperity, and resilience outcomes in their home country. 

    Australia for ASEAN scholarships - Australia

    The University of Adelaide, in collaboration with Australia Awards, is offering one full tuition scholarship for a deserving student from each of the following countries - Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia - to pursue a master's degree at the University.    

    High Commission of Brunei Darussalam - Brunei Darussalam

    The Brunei Government offers scholarships to citizens of Brunei Darussalam to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Australia.

    Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (IEFFE/LPDP) - Indonesia

    The Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (IEFFE) – Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) – is a postgraduate scholarship program that provides financial support to Indonesian citizens who want to pursue higher education in selected priority areas at top universities around the world. The scholarship program aims to prepare Indonesia’s future leaders and focuses on developing quality human resources in different fields to accelerate the country’s development. Priority areas include engineering, science, agriculture, law, economics, finance, medicine, religious affairs, and socio-culture.

    Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) Program - Indonesia

    IISMA is a mobility scholarship program managed by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT), which gives Indonesian undergraduate students the opportunity to study at top partner universities overseas. Students study one semester abroad in a subject area outside of their major to develop intercultural communication and leadership skills

    Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) - Malaysia

    MARA provides scholarships and loans to outstanding Malaysian citizens to support their undergraduate and postgraduate studies (master’s and Doctor of Philosophy programs) at leading higher education institutions in fields that have a significant impact on Malaysia’s employment needs.

    Ministry of Education, Culture, Research & Technology (MoECRT) - Indonesia

    MoECRT provides opportunities for Indonesian students to study bachelor, master’s and doctoral programs at top universities worldwide through a number of scholarship programs.

    PETRONAS - Malaysia

    The PETRONAS Powering Knowledge initiative is open to all Malaysian students wanting to pursue undergraduate studies in engineering and oil and gas-related fields at universities overseas. 

    Public Service Department (JPA) - Malaysia

    The Public Service Department (JPA) of Malaysia offers a range of scholarship programs to help Malaysian citizens further their studies at top universities around the world.

    Royal Thai Embassy - Australia and Thailand

    The Office of Educational Affairs in the Royal Thai Embassy in Australia undertakes functions associated with the administration of Thai government scholarships and King’s scholarships, including the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC). Government scholarships are allocated from the national budget for education and training to acquire knowledge and ability in fields of study that are in demand.

    Australia Awards - Australia

    The Australia Awards Scholarships program provides opportunities for students from a wide range of countries in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in Australia. Administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this program aims to develop the skills and knowledge of emerging leaders from developing countries so they can drive change and contribute to development, prosperity, and resilience outcomes in their home country.  

    Bolashak International ScholarshipKazakhstan

    The Bolashak International Scholarship aims to train personnel and specialists in priority areas of Kazakhstan’s economy. The program includes academic training (master’s and doctoral), as well as research and production internships, in leading companies and universities around the world.

    Ministry of Higher Education - Maldives

    The Ministry of Higher Education, Maldives offers scholarship opportunities relevant to the Maldives’ labour market and national needs.

    Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment - India

    The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in India offers scholarships that provide citizens with higher education opportunities abroad to enhance their employability. 

    Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship - India

    The Rajasthan Government introduced the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence with the objective of granting students from the economically disadvantaged community in the state an opportunity to pursue higher education abroad.
