Hugh Stretton Oration: In Conversation with Glyn Davis event
On the evening of Thursday 18 February, the University of Adelaide's Stretton Institute hosted the inaugural Hugh Stretton Oration: On Life's Lottery, featuring Professor Glyn Davis AC and a panel discussion held in the historic Elder Hall.
The event was the second in the In Conversation With series, featuring global speakers and attendees.
The night began with a welcome by Professor Jacqueline Lo, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) of the University of Adelaide. This welcome was followed by an opening address from Professor Peter Høj AC, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Adelaide.
Professor Glyn Davis AC joined the event virtually from Melbourne to speak on intergenerational poverty and the role of government and charities. After his Oration, the panellists took to the stage to join Professor Davis and discuss the topics just covered. Facilitated by Professor Lo, the panel discussion consisted of the Reverend Peter Sandeman, Anglican Canon for Social Justice and Advocacy, and Professor Faye McCallum, Head of the University of Adelaide's School of Education.
Following the panel discussion, David Tune ASO PSM, Chair of the Stretton Institute Advisory Board, provided closing remarks, concluding the successful event.
A recording of the panel discussion can be found on the ABC Big Ideas website here.
