Adelaide German Week: Science, Business and Innovation Day 2024
The 2024 Adelaide German Week: Science, Business, and Innovation Day was held in September at the Australian Space Discovery Centre on Lot Fourteen.
The event was co-hosted by the University of Adelaide (UoA) and Flinders University, and sponsored by the Australia-Germany Research Network (AGRN) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
For the third time since 2022, industry bodies, government partners, academics, scholars and other key players across the German-Australian research, science and business landscape came together to celebrate and commemorate the rich history and extensive partnerships between the two countries.
Over 80 guests attended this year’s event, which featured a showcase from the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space (P4S), a tour of the Australian Space Discovery Centre, and a tradeshow-style networking session with representatives from UoA, Flinders University, P4S, DAAD, AGRN, and the German Business Chamber of South Australia.
Both Australia and Germany have long histories of space exploration and research, with their respective space agencies signing a Letter of Intent in 2019.
UoA is the administering organisation for P4S, in partnership with Flinders University. P4S collaborates with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and Germany-based Space biotech company Yuri Gravity to deliver transformative solutions for Space habitation.
The inaugural Adelaide German Week was held in 2022, with the first SA Science, Business and Innovation Day hosted by UoA at the National Wine Centre. In 2023, Flinders University hosted the Science, Business and Innovation Day at the Tonsley Innovation District.
The aim of the event is to showcase current bilateral research, educational partnerships, business initiatives and innovative collaborations between SA and Germany, and provide a platform that can facilitate and promote opportunities to explore potential future collaboration and growth in these areas.
The event has now become a fixture on the South Australian events calendar, with UoA and Flinders University alternating as hosts each year.
