University of Surrey delegation visits Adelaide

The University of Adelaide was pleased to host one of its key strategic international partners, The University of Surrey, at its North Terrace campus in March.

The partnership between the two institutions, established in 2022, focuses on the key themes of cyber, AI, space, and sustainability and energy.

There have been several reciprocal visits between the University of Surrey and the University of Adelaide (UoA), including a UoA Senior Executive Mission to Surrey in 2022 and 2024 and a visit by Surrey’s Vice Chancellor and Provost to UoA in 2023.

The University of Surrey delegation visiting Adelaide in March included Professor Tim Dunne, Provost and Senior Vice-President, Mr Patrick Degg, Vice-President, Global, as well as the four theme leads from Surrey.

The visit began with a meeting with Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), UoA, Global Engagement and the UoA theme leads.

Research roundtables were subsequently held for all four themes, during which representatives from both institutions identified areas for engagement, explored future opportunities and established next steps.

Other activities in the program included meetings with UoA’s student mobility team (Study Overseas) and UoA’s Professional and Continuing Education to explore joint online short courses in theme domains, a welcome dinner, and tours of the EXTERRES Lab – a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed to simulate off-Earth environments - and the Australian Institute of Machine Learning – Australia’s first institute dedicated to research in machine learning.

The UoA and University of Surrey are united in their pursuit of pioneering research with a global impact. Both institutions are renowned for their comprehensive, interdisciplinary approaches fostering collaboration and innovation, and look forward to strengthening and expanding the partnership in the future.
