Are our food systems resilient?
Last week Dr. John Ingram of Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford visited GFAR and gave a seminar to our staff and PhD students on food system resilience. Dr. Ingram is currently in Australia on an OECD fellowship and based at University of Queensland. He is coordinating the UK Global Food Security Programme’s “Resilience of the UK Food System in a Global Context” research program and is spending time in Australia to learn about the Resilience of the Australian Food System.
Agricultural Policy Research to Support Natural Resource Management in Indonesia’s Upland Landscapes
This project’s research activities provide an understanding of how existing national and local policies (e.g., public investments, property rights, extension, fertiliser and water subsidies, trade policies, and taxes) influence farm household decisions that result in these environmental externalities.

Parliamentary Landcare Group Established in South Australia
Members of the South Australian Parliament have established a bi-partisan Friends of Landcare group as part of celebrations for the 20-year anniversary of the Landcare Association of South Australia (LASA). Thirty members of parliament and representatives of the landcare movement in South Australia shared dinner at Parliament House on 26th February to discuss the ethic and achievements of landcare in South Australia.

Highlights from Day three at the 2019 AARES conference
A dominant theme on Friday, the final day of the 2019 Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) conference, was change and how that change can be managed.The mini symposium about drought discussed the impacts of weather change and the form in which drought can impact farmers and how governments attempt to help farmers to manage that. Glyn Wittwer illustrated the labour market impacts of the current drought in NSW using results from CGE modelling.
