Decoding cancer’s environmental influences
Jose Polo
Epigeneticist
The way our behaviours and environment affect our genes is called epigenetics, and it’s an area of study closely intertwined with emerging cancer research.
Jose is the inaugural director of the new Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics, where he’s developing anti-lymphoma therapies and investigating innovative prostate cancer treatments.
“In the last 14 years there’s been a revolution in this field,”says Jose Polo.
“And our research is pushing right at the cutting edge. We’re exploring completely new therapies.”
Jose was recently awarded the 2022 President’s Medal by the Australia and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology—the highest honour that the organisation bestows.
