Celebrating the International Day of Light
Yesterday, the University of Adelaide’s Optica Student Chapter hosted a captivating lecture in honour of the International Day of Light, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of science enthusiasts.
Professor Kishan Dholakia, Director of the Centre of Light for Life, led the audience on a journey through the wonders of light in his presentation, "A Trip on the Light Fantastic."
The lecture illuminated the critical role light plays in tackling societal challenges, from harnessing solar energy to making groundbreaking discoveries like detecting gravitational waves. Professor Dholakia also showcased cutting-edge technologies, including optical tweezers and 3D holographic imaging, illustrating how light is reshaping our understanding of the world.
The event wasn’t just about learning; attendees had the chance to engage in interactive experiments, discuss with local physicists, and enjoy light refreshments, making it a memorable evening for all. As Professor Dholakia put it, “Science is connected, and it is changing right under our feet.”
The success of this event underscores the importance of light-based research and its far-reaching impact on science and society. Well done to the Optica Student Chapter.
