On August 12th, a prestigious ceremony was held to recognise the finalists for the 2024 SA Science Excellence Awards, during which Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem and Prof Craig Priest received their finalist certificates from the Chief Scientist for South Australia.

Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem is Deputy Director of the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) and Director of the Optofab Adelaide Hub at the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). Craig Priest, SA Node Director of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF-SA), was recognised as a finalist in the Educator category for his work with the Winter School.

While overall category winners will be announced in November, last night's celebration recognised the achievements of every finalist—selected amongst a strong pool of applicants for their leadership and impact.

The event highlighted the exceptional talent within South Australia, showcasing the remarkable contributions of individuals in the scientific community. Craig Priest's nomination reflects his outstanding efforts in STEM education, while Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem's recognition underscores her leadership in advancing science.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Craig, Heike, and all the other dedicated finalists. Best of luck with the awards presentation in November!
