Optofab Adelaide Supports Research with Advanced Manufacturing

Heike Presenting Optofab Seminar 27 march 2025

On Thursday 27th March, the Optofab Adelaide Hub, part of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF), was in the spotlight at a well-attended seminar hosted by the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS).

Held at The Braggs, the event featured a presentation by Professor Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, Director of the Optofab Adelaide Hub, who provided an in-depth overview of how Optofab supports researchers and students through its advanced manufacturing capabilities and expert guidance.

Optofab Adelaide is part of the national Optofab network—one of the specialist nodes of the ANFF—funded through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). It offers cutting-edge expertise in specialty glass and optical fibre manufacture, surface functionalisation, and precision fabrication services for researchers, students, and industry partners.

Professor Ebendorff-Heidepriem highlighted how users can access dedicated technical support and expert advice tailored to their project needs, particularly in photonics, advanced materials, and sensing applications.

The seminar also served as an important reminder to all researchers and students affiliated with the University of Adelaide: "When using Optofab resources or expertise in your work, please ensure Optofab and ANFF are acknowledged in any resulting publications."

As her internationally recognised work shows, Optofab Adelaide plays a key role in turning research challenges into real-world solutions that benefit both science and industry.
