Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Adelaide University Library network promotes and fosters interest and support for the University Library from alumni and the wider community. The Friends of the Library:

Advocate for, promote and foster interest in and support for the Library as a cultural centre and the heart of the University campus
Increase knowledge of the role, collections, services and facilities of the Library and its role in research, scholarship and community information
Develop relationships with other libraries, cultural organisations and appropriate commercial organisations for the benefit of members
Foster networking opportunities for members
Work with other networks and community organisations to benefit alumni of the University
Raise funds for the Library, particularly the development and maintenance of special, unique and rare collection items and the heritage status of the Barr Smith Library

"In conversation" webinar with Olivia De Zilva and Matthew Hooton

Hear local authors Olivia De Zilva and Matthew Hooton in conversation about their books, their fixation with hauntings, their writing processes, and their experiences as student and teacher respectively of Creative Writing at Adelaide University.

In conversation will be facilitated by Emily Hart, Publisher at Pink Shorts Press.

An opportunity to present your questions and participate in the live 15-minute Q&A will be available at the end of the webinar.

Futher information

Olivia De Zilva is the author of poetry collection Sick Note (2026), novel Plastic Budgie (2025), and young-adult novel Eggshell (2025). Olivia studied Creative Writing at Adelaide University.

Matthew Hooton is the author of the novels Everything Lost, Everything Found (2025), Typhoon Kingdom (2019), and Deloume Road (2010). He has taught creative writing at the University of Victoria in Canada and at the University of Adelaide, where he is a member of the JM Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice.
