Cover to Cover: Exposing the Bookbinder's Ancient Craft
The curator would like to thank all of those who have provided inspiration for Cover to Cover: Exposing the Bookbinder’s Ancient Craft. Without your knowledge, support and enthusiasm, this exhibition would not have been possible.
I am particularly indebted to Cheryl Hoskin and Marie Larsen of Rare Books & Special Collections, Barr Smith Library, who have been invaluable as a sounding board for ideas, and who manage the impressive collections from which so many of the exhibited books were selected. A special thank you also to bookbinder and conservator, Anthony Zammit, and the members of his workshops, for their expertise and from whom I continue to learn so much.
Many talented bookbinders and conservators have published important information about the various aspects of their professions over the years. Their eagerness to share with us both time-honoured practices and new, innovative approaches is worthy of great merit, for it not only encourages new interest in the field but also allows those already working in it to continue to grow professionally.
Particular acknowledgement must go to the authors listed below, whose works have assisted my own research enormously. Their texts deserve the highest of praise and will not disappoint those interested in further exploring the binder’s fascinating craft.
