Union House

Union House distinctively blends heritage with contemporary design.

Union House is a unique venue for events, socialising, and engaging in life at Adelaide University’s City Campus East. In-house venues include five well-equipped function rooms, a private dining room, a restaurant, Theatre, Cinema and the iconic Adelaide UniBar.

Function Rooms

Function Room 1

The largest function room opens onto the East-facing balcony and can cater for up to 200 people seated, or 280 standing. With round banquet tables and extensive AV facilities, the room is suitable for a variety of events including gala dinners, conferences, and ceremonies.

Function Room 2

Seating up to 60 people, and with a capacity of 120 when standing, Function Room 2 is suitable for events such as training sessions, workshops, and cocktail functions.

Function Room 3

Seating up to 12 people, Function Room 3 features full video conferencing capability and is suitable for board meetings and small workshops.

Rumours Function Room

Located on Level 6, Rumours is a DIY function room with a capacity of 200 people. Suitable for a variety of events including quiz nights, exhibitions, and student club activities, Rumours provides flexible setup options with flip-top tables on wheels and stackable chairs (with chair lifters).

Function Room 4 and Dining Room

Function Room 4 is a prestigious location for board meetings and planning days for up to 12 people. Connected to the Dining Room by a private lobby with restroom, the room has full video conferencing capability.

The Union House Dining Room is the ideal space for executive hosting. Seating up to 18 guests, the room features bespoke furniture, Indigenous artworks and a built-in servery. AV facilities in the Dining Room support presentations via USB plug-in only.

Rooms can be booked separately or together.

Due to current business needs, Union House function rooms are currently unavailable for hire to external parties.

Theatres

Little Theatre

The Little Theatre is a beloved, retro-style performance venue with unmistakeable charm. Tucked away just off the Cloisters, it has a flexible theatre layout and a two-level stage configuration, providing ample creative potential.

The theatre seats 120 and is available for hire when not being used by Adelaide University’s Theatre Guild.

Union Cinema

The 1970s-style cinema is a hidden gem on campus. Located on level 5 of Union House, right next door to Taikunthi restaurant, this space carries an inviting, nostalgic feel that separates it from modern cinema spaces. 

The cinema sits 140 and is a unique setting for screenings, lectures, and other niche events.

Other Spaces

Exercise Studio

Located on the ground floor, the Exercise Studio is reserved between 8am and 5pm during semester, however is available for use by clubs and groups outside of these times. Bookable by staff and students only. 

UniBar

An iconic part of University life for more than 50 years, UniBar ADL provides ample room for events both inside and outside, including in the Cloisters Courtyard and a licensed lawned area.

Taikunthi restaurant

Taikunthi (tie-goon-dee) serves high quality food and beverages - including coffee - from 8am on weekdays until the early evening. With a balcony that overlooks the Cloisters Courtyard and surrounding parklands, and a capacity of 80 seated or 120 standing, the restaurant is bookable for private and after-hours events.

Taikunthi also manages the Dining Room and Function Room 4 and are the preferred caterer for all function room events that include the service of alcohol or a sit-down meal.
