About me
Rainer Viktor Haberberger is Professor and Wood Jones Chair of Anatomy at Adelaide
University. He oversees anatomy and histology teaching across the University including
Health Sciences and the Medical Course.
He
studied Human Biology (Medical Research) at Philipps-University in Marburg,
Germany and was senior scientist and lecturer at Justus-Liebig University
Giessen, Germany until 2005. From 2005-2021 he was Professor of Anatomy and
Histology at Flinders University Adelaide.
His current research focuses on mapping cell-types in human dorsal root ganglia and spinal cord and developing a “neuron-on-chip”
microfluidic device to identify chronic pain types. He is chief investigator of a current NHMRC
ideas grant and has received research awards from the International Society for
the Study of Pain (IASP), the Australian Brain
Foundation and
the Australian and New Zealand
College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
He
established the basic pain research special interest group (SIG) within the
Australian Pain Society and was its inaugural chair. Prof Haberberger is faculty
member of Australian Pain Society’s Pain School for Translation and Research
(painSTAR). He
collaborates nationally and internationally, has published over 100 manuscripts
with over 3000 citations and a h-index of 40 and an i10-index of 78.
