​​Exploring elite youth athlete health and wellbeing, including aspects of nutrition, and physical and psychological health

About the study

​​Participants will be asked to complete a series of physical and psychological health assessments across two weeks during their training or competition season.

The study will consist of a two hour initial clinic visit (physical assessments and questionnaires), a two week monitoring period (self-report dietary intake, activity, and sleep patterns), followed by a one hour in-person or Zoom follow-up appointment at the end of the two week monitoring period (psychological assessments via questionnaires and interview).​

Eligibility requirements

​​Elite adolescent and young adult athletes (13-24 years) who compete at state level or higher in individual or team sports, and own or have access to a wearable device (e.g. Garmin, Apple watch, FitBit).​

End of recruitment: October 2026​

Benefits

​​Participants will receive a summary of their personal results including body composition, diet, and energy needs as soon as possible after the follow-up appointment. Dietary information will include a general summary (e.g., total energy, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, etc.).​

​​​​This project has been approved by the University of South Australia's Human Research Ethics Committee (Ethics Protocols 203304), with amendments approved by the Adelaide University Human Research Ethics Commitee No. 2885).
