Help researchers investigate links between immune health and semen quality.
About the study
Male fertility is traditionally assessed by examining sperm numbers (concentration), movement (motility) and appearance (morphology). However, emerging research suggests that a man's immune system may also play an important role in reproductive health.
We are seeking healthy men aged 18-45 years to participate in a research study investigating the relationship between immune health and semen quality. By taking part, you will contribute to research that may improve our understanding of male reproductive health and help inform future approaches to fertility assessment.
What does participation involve?
- Providing a semen sample either at home or onsite at the Clinical Research Facility within the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences (AHMS) building (North Terrace, Adelaide).
- Providing a 20 mL blood sample, collected by a trained professional during your visit.
- Eligible participants may be invited to provide up to six semen and blood samples over a 12-month period, with collections approximately every two months.
Eligibility requirements
- Men aged 18 – 45 years.
- Are in general good health.
- Have fathered a child either naturally or through assisted conception (such as intrauterine insemination [IUI] or in vitro fertilisation [IVF]) in the past 5 years.
- Are able to provide informed written consent.

Start of recruitment: August 2026
End of recruitment: February 2027
Benefits
Participants will receive a $50 gift card for each study visit to help cover travel costs and the inconvenience of participating (up to six visits).
Participants may request a copy of their individual semen analysis report. If any results fall outside the current reference ranges for normal fertility, the research team may recommend follow-up with their general practitioner.
