Reproductive Systems Oncology Group

Transforming women's cancer care through discovery and innovation

The Reproductive Systems Oncology Group is a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to transforming the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological cancers. Beyond their effects on survival, gynaecological cancers can have lifelong consequences for reproductive health by compromising fertility, delaying family planning and limiting future reproductive options, making fertility preservation an increasingly important aspect of patient-centred care.

Led by Professor Peter Hoffmann and Professor Martin K. Oehler, the team brings together internationally recognised expertise in clinical gynaecological oncology, proteomics, spatial biology, molecular pathology, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics.

Working across Adelaide University, Robinson Research Institute, the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Group, and clinical partners including the Royal Adelaide Hospital, our multidisciplinary team integrates laboratory discovery with clinical care to accelerate the translation of research into improved outcomes for women. Through advanced molecular technologies, carefully characterised patient cohorts and one of Australia's leading precision oncology research programs, we are developing next-generation diagnostics, biomarkers and precision therapies for ovarian, endometrial, cervical and other gynaecological cancers. Our research exemplifies the Robinson Research Institute's commitment to translating scientific discovery into better health across the reproductive lifespan.

Our research addresses the entire continuum of women's cancer care - from prevention and early detection through diagnosis, personalised treatment and survivorship. Flagship programs include early ovarian cancer blood tests, immunoproteomics, spatial proteomics, precision surgical oncology and therapy resistance.

Supported by Australia's NCRIS Tissue Imaging Mass Spectrometry Node, the OCRF-funded Ovarian Cancer Tissue Bank and advanced artificial intelligence platforms, we translate research discoveries into clinically meaningful diagnostics and therapies that improve health, reproductive and survival outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers.
