Connecting research, innovation and expertise to shape the future of agriculture, food and the environment
Welcome to Adelaide University’s Waite Campus, home to the largest concentration of agricultural research, education and capability in the Southern Hemisphere. Since its establishment in 1924 at Urrbrae, the Waite has brought together a unique ecosystem of organisations, researchers and facilities working across plant science, agriculture, food, wine and natural resources.
Today, the Waite Research Precinct connects more than 15 co-located organisations and centres, creating a globally recognised hub for collaboration, discovery and real-world impact.
Why it matters
The world is facing increasing pressure on food systems, from climate change and resource constraints to growing global demand. The Waite builds on the vision of Peter Waite to harness science and innovation to meet these challenges, advancing agricultural productivity, sustainability and resilience.
By bringing together complementary expertise across disciplines and sectors, the Waite enables research that translates into practical solutions for industry, communities and the environment.
A connected research ecosystem
What makes the Waite unique is its scale, diversity and level of integration. Researchers, industry partners, government agencies and educators work side by side, sharing infrastructure, knowledge and capability to accelerate innovation.
This collaborative environment supports:
- Leading research in crops, soil, wine, food and natural systems
- Industry-relevant innovation and translation
- Education and training for future researchers and professionals
- National and international partnerships.
