Training dogs to detect COVID-19

Amy Tan
Animal behaviourist
When Amy enrolled to study animal behaviour, she had no idea she’d become an integral part of a world-leading research team before she’d even graduated (although she now has!).
Amy is animal handler to Ned and Gizmo, specially trained sniffer dogs who can identify positive COVID-19 cases faster, earlier and more reliably than a rapid antigen test.
Their use at borders, events and healthcare facilities offers enormous potential benefits.
“It’s been really fun,”says Amy Tan.
“It’s good to know that I’m part of a bigger picture.”
