The mentees were well prepared to ask questions in a structured way. I noticed that Career Services also prepared some starter questions for the mentees. These questions were mostly covered 'What', 'Why' and some sort of 'How'. The mentees, who not only read the questions but also think and relate back to themselves, got the most benefit from the sessions.
It takes some time for mentor and mentees to get to know each other. At the early stage, the mentor tends to answer the questions in a broader way. While the understanding between each other grows, the mentor would be easier to find more suitable solutions for the mentees. So, please be prepared to meet at least 2-3 sessions.
One thing I would suggest to any mentee, please keep a record of any action items from the mentoring sessions. Tracking the progress of these items and discussing with the mentor about the achievements and challenges in the next session. You will notice the differences after the mentor program.
