Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN)
After the census date, the University of Adelaide will send you a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN).
The CAN includes important information about your enrolment, any HELP debt you have incurred or student contribution amounts you have paid, and any loan fee you may have incurred.
The CAN will be provided electronically and you will be advised via your University of Adelaide email account when the CAN is available to view on MyAdelaide.
What Information is on my CAN?
If you are a Commonwealth supported student, your CAN will include information on:
- the courses of study for which you have received Commonwealth assistance;
- the student contribution amounts you have been charged for the courses you are enrolled in;
- any up-front payments you have made;
- any HECS-HELP assistance you have used for that semester study period, if you are using HECS-HELP to pay your student contribution;
- any SA-HELP assistance you have used for that semester study period, if you are using SA-HELP to pay your Student Services and Amenities Fee; and
- an OS-HELP loan if you have accessed one for that study period.
If you have applied for FEE-HELP, your CAN will include information on:
- the tuition fees for your courses of study;
- the courses for which you have received FEE-HELP;
- any up-front payments you have made;
- any SA-HELP assistance you have used for that semester study period, if you are using SA-HELP to pay your Student Services and Amenities Fee; and
- any FEE-HELP loan fee incurred for undergraduate units of study.
What if my CAN is incorrect?
If you notice any errors on your CAN, you have 14 days from the date of the CAN to submit a written request for correction to Student Finance.
It is recommended that you print your CAN and retain them for future reference.
You can also monitor and check these details through MyUniAssist, available on the Commonwealth Government Study Assist website. You will need your CHESSN (provided on your CAN), to access MyUniAssist.
