Course overview
To develop advanced knowledge and skills in research through design, enabling students to define, position, and commence a complex interior architecture project within diverse stakeholder and built environment contexts. Building on knowledge and research capabilities developed in Interior Architecture Honours Research 1 and Interior Architecture Honours Project 1, students will independently frame a line of inquiry and apply critical analysis, synthesis, and evaluation to generate a research-informed design approach. Through this process, students will translate research into spatial strategies, articulating a clear and defensible design position.This course supports the program’s intent to advance knowledge in interior architecture practice and human environments, socially, sustainably, and physically, while equipping students to act as reflective and self-directed designers in professional practice or as a pathway to higher degree research.

- Select and apply appropriate research methods and practices to investigate a complex interior architecture problem, demonstrating critical awareness of their relevance and limitations.
- Develop and initiate a complex interior architecture project by defining a clear design-research position and engaging with relevant stakeholders, contexts, and spatial conditions.
- Analyse and evaluate research processes and findings within the discipline, demonstrating their application and translation into interior architecture design practice.
- Communicate research processes, design strategies, and spatial outcomes effectively through haptic, tacit, written, visual, and three-dimensional modes.
- Reflect on and articulate a critical position as a designer-researcher, demonstrating how research informs and evolves design decision-making.
