Course overview
The course is delivered in a Design Studio format, paralleling industry-standard processes for iterative design development, feedback, and resolution. Students are required to present their work each week to their teachers, subjecting it to analysis, critique and response by staff and students. The studio sessions will be supplemented by synchronous and asynchronous lectures and workshops.
Learning is facilitated through individual and/or group-based design projects and the critical reflection on doing and making, promoting student creativity and critical judgement. Weekly synchronous and asynchronous learning activities focus on specific characteristics and methods in the production of architectural space and are supported by lectures, case studies, course materials, and self-guided research.
Students will apply an understanding of professional roles and responsibilities to clients, society, and the environment and an integrated knowledge of design, communication, building technology, sustainable design strategies, and architectural history and theory. Through individual and collaborative processes and teamwork, students will build upon their ability to adopt strategies and techniques applied to the design and schematic resolution of architectural project/s and environment/s of increasing complexity.

- Integrate contextual qualities of built environments and settings, including site characteristics and user practices, into a coherent medium-scale design proposal.
- Understand how to embed cultural qualities of built environments and settings, including Country and Aboriginal knowledges, into a coherent medium-scale design proposal.
- Apply design methods and informed design judgement in the conceptual, schematic, and developed design of a medium-scale architectural project.
- Synthesise project brief requirements into a resolved design proposal that responds to user needs and program.
- Apply analogue and digital graphic representation and modelling knowledge and skills to generate and communicate three-dimensional form and spatial experience at a Bachelor-exit standard.
