Course overview
The aim of this course is to further develop an understanding of analytical chemistry by expanding learner awareness of the principles and methods of modern analytical methods. The theory component of the course introduces learners to mass spectrometry and other advanced analyte detection methods, advanced electrochemical methods, chemometrics and multivariate statistics in analytical chemistry. The laboratory component of the course provides practical training with a focus on further developing quantitative analytical skills using a variety of instrumental methods together with skills required to analyse, interpret and present data. Learners will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, together with evaluative skills, in both theory-focused workshops and practical-based laboratory sessions, in addition to technical laboratory skills. The course aims to develop in learners the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems and to handle complex data and equipment which aligns with key demands in scientific careers, equipping graduates to address real-world challenges effectively and to excel in various scientific sectors.
