Course overview
Mineral Resources II is an introductory course into the extractives (minerals and energy) industry, where most of Australia's Earth science graduates develop their careers. The course covers fundamentals of ore geology and mineral deposits, but also includes a detailed synopsis of how the extractives industry operates in Australia, including aspects of exploration, mining and processing of minerals. The course will also examine the social, economic and environmental impacts of mining.

Course learning outcomes
- Understand the nature and importance of the Australian Resource Industry
- Describe the variety of mineral deposits and explain how they are formed
- Identify common minerals found in and around ore deposits and demonstrate how they are used to assist exploration
- Explain a holistic view of resource operations, from exploration to mine development to mineral processing
- Evaluate the interaction between environmental, social and governance issues related to the extractives industry
