Course overview

This course supports preservice teachers to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional judgement required to plan, teach, assess, and reflect on learning in Australian school contexts. Throughout the course, preservice teachers will explore how curriculum, learner needs, school context, observation, and assessment inform responsive planning and teaching. During professional experience, they will apply these understandings to support student learning, participation, and wellbeing while continuing to develop their confidence and capability as beginning teachers.

  • Entering school contexts and understanding course expectations
  • Understanding students, communities, and school contexts as the basis for planning
  • Using observation to understand teaching, learning, and classroom relationships
  • Aligning context, curriculum and learner needs for lesson adaptation
  • Sequencing and structuring an adapted lesson for context and learners
  • Differentiating an adapted lesson for three student profiles
  • Justifying pedagogical choices and consolidating Assessment 2 knowledge and understanding
  • Using assessment to inform teaching and prepare for placement
  • Reflection, professional learning, and placement readiness
