Course overview
This course develops students’ ability to apply engineering design methodology to the analysis, integration, and design of mechanical systems. Students will engage in both individual and collaborative work to design and evaluate engineering solutions, select and size appropriate mechanical components, and produce professional-standard technical documentation that meets relevant safety and engineering standards.
- Power Transmission
- Rotating Systems
- Friction Systems
Course learning outcomes
- Apply the engineering design methodology to the design of a mechanical engineering system and associated components, working in a group and individually
- Produce professional standard engineering documentation including written and graphical communication of an engineering design in accordance with relevant safety and engineering standards.
- Demonstrate the ability to appropriately size and select, suitable standard mechanical components from manufacturers catalogues.
- Analyse and integrate various mechanical engineering mechanisms such as belts, chains, gears, bearings, clutches, and cams
