Course overview
Students will develop knowledge of storytelling through writing, drawing, design and production of Character sculpture, Prop and Scene development in relation to Stop Motion animation, creative and entertainment industries. This course develops students’ practice-based knowledge and skills to interpret and apply storytelling principles for a range of industry application. Students will develop skills to construct and document the processes involved in building puppet armature, puppet sculpture, scene props, sets, scene lighting and photography typically used in Stop Motion Animation, theatre, entertainment set design.
Students will critically identify and utilise the techniques, skills and bodies of knowledge required for problem solving within practice and production of set, character and model design.

Course learning outcomes
- Develop skills in the interpretation of storytelling requirements and application of character design principles through the production of stop motion animation artefacts.
- Develop skills in constructing puppet armature and maquette sculpture for stop motion animation.
- Develop skills in constructing scene props, model design and sets for stop motion animation.
- Develop knowledge and skills to professionally light and photograph maquette sculpture and sets for stop motion animation.
- Develop knowledge and practice of ‘sketchbook’ processes which leverage written and pictorial language enabling the documentation of information and the production of visual ideas for application to stop motion animation.
