Course overview
The aim of this course is to extend students’ knowledge of commercial interior design and the current environmental and regulatory issues in professional design practice through the application of design processes, strategies and practices to medium scale workplace projects. Building upon the fundamentals of the planning and human experience of space, the course expands students' application of research for design, planning principles, furniture specification, services design and the landscaping and resolution of medium to large scale space.

Course learning outcomes
- Integrate research, composition and technology into the design of a commercial workplace interior, within a client-briefed commission, such that design decisions are traceable to documented evidence.
- Design with consideration of the relationship between people, human activities and functional requirements in workplace environments, for a multi-stakeholder client with competing priorities, producing spatial planning that withstands scenario-based user testing.
- Analyse and integrate the experiences of practice — site observation, client interaction, critique and iteration — into the design process, evidencing how specific practice encounters changed specific design decisions.
- Communicate effectively and accurately, verbally, in coordinated drawings and schedules, and in three dimensions, to client and professional audiences, at a resolution sufficient for professional review, with all sources attributed.
