Course overview

To develop knowledge of how concepts of nutritional science can be applied to enhance exercise training and athletic performance; develop knowledge in physiological and metabolic process‘ involved in undertaking physical activity; develop an understanding of the relationships between nutrition, exercise and performance and apply sports nutrition principles to exercise science.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe and apply principles of nutrition for exercise and performance for athletes at all competitive levels.
  • Describe the special nutritional requirements for athletes with special needs, and athletes travelling and training in different environmental conditions.
  • Evaluate nutritionally vulnerable athletes within the sporting population.
  • Critically appraise sports supplements and individualise recommendations for athletes and food fads

  • Must have completed 1 of BIOL2062 Human Nutrition (UniSA)/NUTR2004 Human Nutrition AND ( must have completed 1 of AGRI3023 Lifespan Physiology/BIOL2059 Exercise Physiology 1 (UniSA)/HBIO1000 Exercise Physiology 1/NUTR2001 Lifespan Nutrition Physiology)
