Course overview

To provide students with broad understanding of the principles of financial and management accounting and enable them to confidently understand financial and management accounting information from a preparer perspective. Students' understanding of key accounting concepts and disclosure requirements, and their ability to apply fundamental financial and management accounting recording and measurement methods, will be developed.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the usefulness of accounting information and apply basic accounting principles to record and classify financial information
  • Interpret financial statements and apply knowledge to critically analyse financial and non-financial information in financial reports
  • Demonstrate fundamental level knowledge of management accounting processes and the ability to apply management accounting techniques to assess costs, prepare budgets and assist in decision making
