Course overview
To provide students with a comprehensive theoretical understanding of essential concepts that are crucial for operating transport category jet aircraft effectively in Large Aircraft Operations.
Having a deeper understanding and appreciation of topics related to large aircraft, students will gain insights into the factors influencing aircraft operations, capabilities and performance, as well as having a thorough understanding of certain complex systems, to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. Furthermore, the examination of human factors emphasises the importance of non-technical skills such as Crew Resource Management (CRM), communication, situational awareness and decision making. Overall, the aim of this course is to prepare students with the required knowledge and understanding in preparation for study and operation in the Large Aircraft Simulator Courses.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply navigational concepts and transport category jet aircraft systems knowledge to solve scenario-based questions.
- Demonstrate knowledge in hazardous meteorological phenomena and their relevance to the operation of large jet aircraft.
- Discuss elements of human factors as they relate to the safe operation of large jet aircraft.
- Evaluate flight plans for normal and non-normal operations involving large jet aircraft while adhering to relevant policies, procedures and regulations.
