Course overview

In this course, students will undertake flights conducted under the instrument flight rules (IFR), IFR navigation lessons and 2D and 3D approaches in a simulator and a single engine aircraft. Also: obtain a multi-engine endorsement; instrument flight rule procedures conducted in the simulator, including holding patterns, precision and non precision approaches; multi-engine endorsement training.

Course learning outcomes

Be endorsed to operate a multi-engine aircraft in accordance with the pilot operators handbook and CASA Rule Part 61.
Fly a cross country flight under instrument flight rules (IFR), perform holding patterns and approaches utilising the GPS, VOR, ILS and RNAV to the instrument rating standards for issue. Be recommended for progress into Instrument Rating 2.
Demonstrate a professional attitude consistent with an airline pilot applying: good decision making, situational awareness, airmanship and threat and error management by recognising and avoiding potential conflict, deviation from normal operations. Respond correctly to simulated or real in -flight emergencies.

Inherent requirements

*Students must hold a minimum of a CASA Class II Medical Certificate with at least 6 months validity. *Students must remain compliant with the Aviation Academy's Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP). *Students must hold a commercial pilot licence prior to enrolling in this course. Students must have passed CASA Instrument Rating Theory exam (IREX). *While it is highly encouraged to maintain a current Class 1 medical certificate, student must hold a minimum of a Class 2 Medical with at least 6 months validity. Students must have passed CASA Instrument Rating Theory Exam (IREX). *Mandatory Mass Briefs and Safety Meetings: - Throughout the course, you are required to attend mandatory Mass Briefs and Safety Meetings, which provide essential theoretical knowledge and sharing safety lessons learned that are integral to flight training. *Mass Briefs: - This course includes 8.0 hours of mandatory Mass Briefs you are required to attend. These everts will be scheduled into your flight training schedule. *Monthly Safety Meeting: - In the last week of every month, a Monthly Safety Meeting will be held. These meetings cover vital safety topics informed by current industry trends. Attendance is mandatory. *Failure to Attend: - Failure to attend mandatory Mass Briefs or Safety Meeting will result in the need for mandatory make-up sessions to be paid at your own cost. * If absence is due to medical, or compassionate reasons, the cost will not be applied if you provide acceptable supporting documentation.
