Course overview

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills on the construction of high-rise  

Buildings, and will cover an array of topics such as a history of tall buildings, their structural elements including wind and seismic loading's through to handling of materials, people movement within the building, de-construction, sustainability and modular high rise construction.

Course learning outcomes

  • Have an in-depth understanding of the history and evolution of high-rise buildings.
  • Critically review multi-story construction methods and materials used for the construction of high-rise buildings.
  • Gain an understanding of building dead and live loads, as well as seismic and wind loads on tall buildings.
  • Evaluate the logistics involved in the construction of a building such as materials handling, and people movement and the methods of demolishing a high-rise building.
  • Explore the use of smart building technology and sustainability of high-rise buildings.

  • must have completed all of ARCH1010 Structures/BLDG1002 Low-rise Construction and Land Surveying
