Course overview
This course examines the social, ethical, and cultural values relevant to architectural practice. Students will develop knowledge of practice and project management. They will develop an understanding of the character and operation of practices; legal and regulatory requirements; relevant industry bodies; registration; risks and professional liability; and career planning. Students will develop knowledge of planning regulations and approval processes, different project stages and the management of time, cost, and quality. They acquire knowledge of tendering processes; standard agreements between architects, clients, and consultants; their administration and alternative procurement methods. Students will use appropriate verbal, written, and visual means to apply the above in response to the National Standard of Competency for Architects.

Course learning outcomes
- Analyse and apply ethical principles and the regulatory framework in professional architectural practice.
- Evaluate and interpret various forms of agreements between parties involved in project design and delivery.
- Assess the role of the architect in Expressions of Interest, evaluate cost implications for building projects, and compare alternative models of project procurement.
- Demonstrate understanding of the administration of standard forms of building contracts, from tendering to project completion.
- Develop and integrate professional skills and knowledge in alignment with the National Standard of Competency for Architects.
